16th December 2015 Strut Meeting - Crowfield Club House 7:30pm

The December meeting is the annual Christmas drinks and nibbles combined with the Chairman's Quiz - not sure what Mick has up his sleeve for this year, but if anything like previous years should be a bit of fun...

Its' very much a social evening so partners and friends most welcome to come along and join in the fun

16th September 2015 Strut Meeting - Crowfield Club House 7:30pm

With nothing formal planned for this month, it will be a get together at Crowfield for chat and a Quiz!

The idea is that everyone comes along with

1) a photo/picture (digital or printed)
2) a Date
3) a Place

All of an aviation theme, although whereas before I said they should be unrelated, actually to open it up they could be related or not. So 3 totally separate subjects, or maybe a general question on the photo, plus date/place question related to the photo as well

Also the place/date could be the question or the answer, So you could give the date/place and everyone has to guess the what it relates to, or give a question for which the answer is the place/date

No prizes - just a bit of fun!

17th June 2015 Strut Meeting - Great Oakley Airfield from 6:30pm

This months Strut meeting is a visit to Great Oakley to view the Proctors currently under restoration here by Mike Biddulph who will talk us through the history of the aircraft and the work carried out.

As it's June with the lighter evenings and visit is to an airfield those wishing too can fly in.
With this in mind, so you can get home before dusk, Mike will be there to receive us from 6:30pm.

Mike doesn't charge for group visits, but as usual we'll make a collection, which will handed to Mike towards the restoration costs.

Can you please let Martyn () know if you are planning to come along and if so by road/air, so that Mike has an idea of numbers (not sure how many can get into the workshop at once), and in particular how many aircraft to expect

Details for Great Oakley can be found on www.greatoakleyairfield.co.uk

Although basically ....

By Road - Great Oakley Lodge Farm, Harwich Road, CO12 5AE

The best way to find the airfield by car, regardless of your starting point, is to take the A12 to COLCHESTER then head towards HARWICH on the A120. Continue on the A120 all the way to WIX where you would ignore the FIRST right turn to WIX (to avoid driving through the village) and taking the SECOND right turn into HARWICH ROAD. A short way in, take the first left into OAKLEY ROAD and continue to the junction of WIX ROAD bearing left onto SCHOOL ROAD. Drive a short distance until you see the sign for Great Oakley Airfield.

Once on the grounds continue to follow the path, left past the lake until you reach the Airfield.
By Air

Runway 09/27 850x40m - which undulates a bit
Runway 04/22 600x24m

Make 'blind' calls to ‘Great Oakley Traffic’ on 123.20.

Landing fee £10, although Mike is going to see if he can negotiate adiscount

24th May 2015 Strut Event - Bruntingthorpe Fly-out

This a public open day when the jets are run at full power down the main runway, for which Glenn has arranged that we can fly-in

The Runway in use will be 24 (3000m long) - Black concrete

We are asked to call at about 10 miles out on Bruntingthorpe Radio 122.825

There will be some activity on the first 500m of the runway (jets preparing for their appearance) so look to touch down 5-600m down the runway.

There is a convention at other end of the airfield with some big white marquees so you will turn off left onto the grass taxi way before the marquees. (about midpoint of the runway)

There will be marshallers to show you where to park (behind the picket fence near old control tower)

They are expecting 30-40 light aircraft (inc our 10) so good lookout and precision please.

No landing fee but someone will collect £15 per head entry fee when you park up (same price as if you went in by car)

MUST BE PARKED BY 1030 local (If you`re late, you will be refused landing or get run over by a Victor)
